The first HYROX Fort Lauderdale event was held on 24th February 2024 at the Broward County Convention Center.
The event saw the first outing of the new HYROX equipment from Centr (which will eventually be used in all races, globally). The general consensus was that the equipment is very good quality, with a good feel. The sled push did appear to be quicker than normal (with the median time in the mens open being around 50secs quicker than the previous American event) but it remains to be seen whether this continues or not, as we often see faster sleds with new equipment (e.g. when HYROX first races in a new region). There were reports that the sled pull ropes felt different – with less stretch – and that some people needed to use chalk more regularly as the ropes became quite slippery. There were also new kettlebells, wall balls and sandbags in use. It is believed that the equipment will first make an appearance in Europe at the Cologne event in April.Â
