2022/23 Race Review

Anaheim hosted the final USA HYROX event of the 2022/23 season on 22nd April 2023 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Women’s Pro

The main story of the day was in the Women’s Pro race where an incredible performance from Megan Jacoby saw her win in a World Record breaking time time of 00:58:58. This makes her not just the fastest woman ever in HYROX, but also the first to ever go under 60 minutes.  Megan is also the womens double world record holder (which she set in Stockholm in March 2023 alongside Mikaela Norman), and this impressive performance will only serve to boost her confidence ahead of the upcoming 2023 HYROX World Championships in Manchester.

Second in the race was Belle McFarlane in 01:04:08, who was running just her second ever individual HYROX.  This time makes her the 8th fastest Pro woman of the season and so slots her into the qualifying spots for the Elite race at the World Championhsips.

Third place went to Lauren Rantala in a personal best time of 01:08:38.

The full race can be watched here on the HYROX America Instagram account.

Men’s Pro

The Men’s pro was won by Ryan Kent in a time of 00:57:10. Kent is one of the fastest ever men in HYROX, and finished 2nd in the 2022 World Championships.  The fastest ever man – Hunter McIntyre – had started the race, and was leading up to the sled pull.  He was passed at that station by Kent and on the subsequent run pulled out of the race.  He didnt appear to be injured but was presumably not feeling 100%, and later commented that he’d stopped as he wasn’t going to break the world record.  McIntyre (you can watch my interview with him here) has, at times, seemed unbeatable during HYROX and, last time out, in Barcelona, set the Men’s Pro world record.  However, in Anaheim he may have shown he is at least partly human after all.  It will have surely given hope to the other men in the Elite race that maybe – just maybe – he can be beaten at the upcoming World Championships.

Kent provided us with his thoughts after the race, which can be seen in the video below…

Second was Anass Aouhry in 01:00:50, and third was Rich Ryan in a time of 01:01:11.  Ryan, in particular, would have been hoping to secure a time quick enough to make it into the Elite race qualifying positions for the World Championships but this performance wasn’t fast enough to that and he currently still sits as the 18th fastest Male Pro of the season (with top 15 required for automatic qualification).

The full race can be watched here.

Men’s Open

Fastest in the Men’s Open was Jon Clark in 01:02:32.

Brad Clark was second with a time of 01:03:32, and third was Marcus Farris in 01:05:25.

Women’s Open

A very closely contested Women’s Open race was won by Kim Richter in 01:06:20. Just 24 seconds separated the top three women.

Second place was taken by Amanda Wilson in 01:06:41, followed by Stephanie Hillman in 01:06:44

Doubles

The fastest Mixed Doubles time was set by Karyn Guidry and Mark Bottenhorn in a time of 01:01:28.

The Men’s Doubles was won by Brandon Hughes and Lester Maxwell in 00:54:13.

The Women’s Doubles was won by Emma Holm and Jesse Clarke in a time of 01:04:42.

Other US HYROX events are held in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Anaheim, Houston and Miami, Dallas.
