2023/24 Event Review

The latest HYROX Anaheim event was held on 19th May 2024 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The event was a “Last Chance Qualifier” which means those racing in the Pro division had a (last) chance to earn themselves a spot in the Elite 15 at the World Championships in Nice.  Top 4 in the Women’s race, and top 2 in the Men’s got the places.

Despite already having a place in the Elite 15, reigning world champion Hunter McIntyre also raced – his first HYROX singles race since breaking the world record in Stockholm towards the end of 2023.

Read on for the main news, results and pictures from the day…

Women’s Pro

The Women’s Pro was won by Camilla Massa in a 35-39 Age Group World Record time of 01:02:37.

Second was Vivian Tafuto in 01:02:53.

Third place was taken by Amy Bevilacqua in a time of 01:03:47 – an incredible time that breaks her existing 50-54 Age Group World Record.

Camilla and Amy secure their places in the Elite 15 at the World Championships in Nice. Vivian had already qualified, and so the remaining 2 slots went to Canadian Maria Fecik who finished 4th in a time of 01:05:24, and Antje Hardes in 5th in 01:05:38.

Well known CrossFit athlete Sydney Wells made her HYROX debut in the race, finishing in 18th position overall in a time of 01:12:33.

Men’s Pro

The Men’s Pro was won by Hunter McIntyre in a time of 00:56:03.  Prior to the race Hunter had stated he intended to break his own world record in this event.  However, despite being the fastest on the day, this time was nearly 3 minutes off of his world record.  With less than 3 weeks to go until the World Championships, will this give some of his competitors hope that he perhaps isn’t in unbeatable form?

A close second on the day was Lukas Storath in 00:56:18 – a 40-44 Age Group World Record.

Third place was taken by Australian Jon Wynn in a time of 00:57:12.

Hunter had already qualified for the Elite 15 for the World Championships, therefore Lukas and Jon claim the remaining 2 men’s places.

Pro Doubles

The Men’s Pro Doubles was won by Rich Ryan and Pelayo Menendez Fernandez in a time of 00:50:51.  These 2 are the existing world record holders in the open doubles division and this was the first time they had taken on the Pro weight doubles.  Their time was the second fastest ever in the Pro Doubles division.

The Women’s Pro Doubles was won by Cheryl Snow and Kim Cole in a time of 01:07:25 (an age group world record in the 50-59 category).

Men’s Open

The Men’s Open was won by William Allen in a time of 01:00:00.

Second was David Evans in 01:00:26.

Third place was taken by Joshua Gonzalez in a time of 01:02:09.

Women’s Open

The Women’s Open was won by Kim Richter in a time of 01:05:07.

Second was Pamela Fox in 01:07:54.

Third place was taken by Jenna Drummond in a time of 01:08:02.

Open Doubles

The Men’s Open Doubles was won by Marc Kupfer and Daniel Sorenson in a time of 00:55:45.

The Women’s Open Doubles was won by Daniela Pomalaza and Reagan Davis in a time of 01:00:57.

The Mixed Open Doubles was won by John Howard III and Laura McGowan in a time of 00:59:50.
