The first HYROX Brisbane event was held on 17th August at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Athletes racing included James Kelly (3rd in the Elite 15 at the 2024 World Championships); Joanna Wietrzyk (16-24 Age Group winner in Sydney, and member of the World Record holding Relay team); Chris Woolley (previous Rox Lyfe podcast guest); Lauren Griffith (12th in the Elite 15 at the 2024 World Championships); Jess Pettrow; Stephanie Wighton; and Jess Short – just to name a few!

Here are the main results of the day…

Men’s Pro

The Men’s Pro was won by James Kelly in a time of 00:55:40.  That’s the second win this season already for James after he won in Sydney recently, and this performance was actually the 9th fastest Men’s Pro time ever!

Second was Tom Rodgers in 00:58:18, and third place was taken by Dexter Buchanan in a time of 01:00:50.

Women’s Pro

The Women’s Pro was won by Joanna Wietrzyk in a time of 01:00:52 – a fantastic 16-24 Age Group world record.  This was only the third HYROX event that Joanna has been to yet she now currently holds the age group world record in the Open and Pro divisions, and is member of the Women’s Relay world record breaking team too.  This time puts her in the Elite 15 qualifying standings for this season’s majors and makes her the 4th fastest woman of all time in HYROX.  To have achiecved all of this, at the age of just 22, in such a short time frame, with limited HYROX experience, bodes very well for the young athlete – she is certainly looking as if she has the potential to be a huge star in this sport.

Second was Lauren Griffith in 01:01:15, and third place was taken by Jessica Short in a time of 01:08:17.

Pro Doubles

The Men’s Pro Doubles was won by Ed Womersley and Dominic Sheppard in a time of 00:54:33.

The Women’s Pro Doubles was won by Sarah Carter and Amy Carter in a time of 01:03:35.

Men’s Open

The Men’s Open was won by Joshy Minogue in a time of 01:00:28.

Second was Elliot Fagan in 01:00:54.

Third place was taken by Dan Plews in a time of 01:01:39.

Women’s Open

The Women’s Open was won by Jess Bemrose in a time of 01:05:25.

Second was Eleanor Sullivan in 01:05:26.

Third place was taken by Carlie Reid in a time of 01:05:40.

Open Doubles

The Men’s Open Doubles was won by Ryan Howe and Mitch Fuller in a time of 00:54:50.

The Women’s Open Doubles was won by Libby Carr and Emily Amris in a time of 01:01:06.

The Mixed Open Doubles was won by Will Martin and Meg Martin in a time of 00:56:41. Meg was recently on the Rox Lyfe podcast – check it out here.

There will also be HYROX Australia events in Perth (14th September 2024) and Melbourne (dates still to be announced at the time of writing, but believed to be around December 2024) .
