In response to overwhelming demand, HYROX, the global fitness race phenomenon, is set to make its debut in Canada, with the first race scheduled to take place in Toronto at the Enercare Centre on October 5th, 2024. Canada’s ever-growing health and fitness landscape, valued at a staggering $4.7 billion in 2023, makes it a natural next course of action for HYROX, which has been named in both 2023 and 2024 as one of the top fitness trends.
HYROX participation rate has increased by an impressive 1,081% over the last five years*, resulting in expansion globally. The fitness racing phenomenon is thrilled to now fulfil the immense demand from the Canadian market, and welcomes racers from every athletic background; if you’re a total novice, regular gym-goer or pro athlete, there is a race category for you.
Douglas Gremmen, Managing Director of HYROX North America adds “We’re excited to be expanding our footprint to one of the biggest fitness and wellness markets in the world. This move reflects our growth and commitment to making fitness racing a world renowned sport, we’ve already welcomed Canadian athletes at races all over the world, so finally enabling participation on home turf has been a priority.”
In celebration of HYROX’s Canada launch, a launch tour** will take place over a two week period, designed to provide a taste of HYROX to prospective athletes at HYROX affiliate gyms across the country. The tour will begin on February 10th with a two-day event at One Academy, a HYROX affiliate gym, previously voted Toronto’s best gym. On day-one members can learn the foundations of HYROX through a masterclass, and day two will consist of a HYROX simulation event, further aiding HYROX preparation ahead of the first official race in October.
The innovative fitness race’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down, with the Canadian expansion being a product of such success in existing markets. Year on year Google searches for ‘HYROX’ have surged by +233%. Meanwhile, #hyrox has become a sensation on TikTok, amassing a whopping 55.6 million views. With over 2500 gym partners globally, HYROX has become the preferred training style for elite gyms and studios, even being named as an influence for gym design trends in 2024.
