Who Am I?

Greg Williams

Greg Williams

Nutritionist, Rox Lyfe Founder, HYROX Geek

I am a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist, BTN Nutritionist, and HYROX athlete with a long history of supporting a wide range of clients with their nutrition and health.  Clients include athletes, well-known celebrities, Crohn’s / Ulcerative Colitis sufferers, those seeking body composition changes, autoimmune sufferers, and more.  I have also run a health supplement company, and understand the diet and supplement industry inside out.

Since discovering HYROX, I’ve studied the demands of the sport endlessly, improved my finishing time by over 17 minutes, and qualified for the HYROX World Championships.  It has become clear that many athletes don’t value nutrition and lifestyle factors as highly as they should, and are limiting their performance as a result.

Fuel to Perform

Exercising without optimising your nutrition (and other lifestyle factors) is like trying to build a house on a weak foundation. It just can’t be done effectively.  Proper nutrition is essential for unlocking your full HYROX potential.

Many athletes will put SO MUCH work into their training, but fail to fulfill their potential because they are not giving their body what they need on a day to day basis.  What’s more, many athletes are spending lots of money on supplements they simply don’t need, and missing out on the ones they do.

I don’t believe in fad diets, severely restricting yourself, or gimmicks.  Instead I simply want to give you the evidence based tools, and information, to help you perform at your very best for the rest of your life.

To help, I am offering a limited number of 45 mins calls, where we will review your existing situation and I’ll provide you with personalised advice to help maximise your performance.  Prior to the call I will send you forms to complete that tell us more about you, your health, your existing diet and more.  This will be reviewed, in detail, prior to the call so that our time together is spent as effectively as possible.  All for a special introductory price of just £75.

Client Stories…

My session with Greg was very informative and helpful. He is extremely thorough and made sure I had everything I needed. In particular, he made it simple enough to integrate into my everyday life!  This has meant I have peace of mind that I’m doing the right things and has led to me improving my performance consistently over time.  I highly recommend that any athlete should meet Greg and give it a try. It has definitely made a difference to me!

I looked to Greg to try and help me with increasing my performance using nutrition. As a gym owner and personal trainer I already know how to look after my own health and nutrition but after recently qualifying for the HYROX World Championships, fuelling for performance was an area I needed help and guidance with.  I left the call with Greg with reassurance I was on the right track and also some added help with supplementation and macro-splits.  After implementing Greg’s advice I feel my performance and recovery are improving which was my main focus to begin with.  If you’re wanting to improve your health or performance than I couldn’t recommend Greg enough.

Worth every penny – one month after my call with Greg my mindset around eating and training has changed. He made me rethink my attitude to food – as a 50 year old woman I felt like my body was doing it’s own thing- in reality I think I was in give up mode. Greg reinforced a lot of things I already knew and gave me a few tips to get back on track. Not only do my clothes fit me again but I feel more confident – I feel stronger and better in myself even though the scales don’t seem to reflect this I’m definitely feeling better about myself and my training is going well – thank you

I signed up for my first HYROX race about six weeks prior to race day. With a race so grueling, I knew that proper training would be vital to success in the sport. And as a newcomer, other than making myself do burpee broad jumps until I passed out, I didn’t really know where to start. I decided to sign up for personalized coaching through Rox Lyfe and am so happy I did. Paul and Greg work as a team, with Paul providing personalized training plans designed to fit your schedule and HYROX goals. Greg is a certified nutritionist and provides tons of support and post-race analysis to help with your progress. Thanks to the killer Rox Lyfe training programs, I shocked myself by winning my age group in my first ever HYROX race and qualifying for the World Championships. The outreach and support from both Paul and Greg has been amazing, and we are just getting started. They are extremely passionate about HYROX and are committed to growing the sport. Working with both of them has been an absolute pleasure, and I can’t wait to continue this journey and see where it takes us.

A friend and I decided to try our hand at our first HYROX event. I initially stumbled through many videos and HYROX oriented pages to learn how I should train but was unsure if I could get prepared in time. I then found Paul as a recommended coach but saw that he only had limited availability. I thought that if he would be willing to work with me that it was a sign I could actually get race ready. He accepted me as a client and it was the best decision for my HYROX training ever. Paul perfectly structured a plan for me that challenged me and was able to quickly prepare me for my event. I cannot say enough positive words about him. He gracefully navigated my aches, pains, and frustrations as I began this new sport. And Greg was able to masterfully button up my nutrition and supplements. Even though I started with them only 9 weeks out, I arrived on race day feeling confident and optimistic. I had a great race and am already looking forward to improving at my next event. These two guys are rockstars! They are the best guides to have on your team as you tackle the grueling HYROX!

When I first approached Greg in April 2015 I was struggling badly with fatigue and stomach pains which led to poor concentration, night sweats and low energy levels. It had pretty much been like that since I was diagnosed with Crohn’s 2 years before. Although medication had solved some of the symptoms it had not solved them all.

Being a very sporty person, life was frustrating not being able to perform to the best of my abilities or able to summon the energy when I wanted to be playing sport. Having spent numerous hours trawling the web for tips and ideas, there seemed to be nothing fruitful. Advice ranged from don’t exercise too hard to, do not exercise during a flare…neither option I was willing to settle for!

With confusing and conflicting advice I stumbled upon Greg on LinkedIn.  I was hesitant at first to get in touch because there is a lot of bad advice online but I’m so glad that I did.  Doing so has completely changed my health.  My symptoms have reduced dramatically, I’ve reduced my medication, and feel so much more energetic.  Where my energy levels peaked and troughed, they now remain at a constant higher level.

I’m now eager to play sports again without the restraints that Crohn’s seemed to have imposed on me  and recently completed a 100 mile bike ride, I play hockey regularly and also enjoy endurance outdoor swimming!  I enjoy the food I eat and while changes were obviously needed, it was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be. Yes there are hurdles, but a little short term pain has been well worth the long term gains. Another side effect I discovered about my new diet is how I no longer look at food and do not want to eat it. I have a much greater appetite and love eating again. All I can say to anyone thinking of getting in touch with Greg is to just do it – it can help you to very quickly feel so much better and let you live your life again without many of the symptoms of a debilitating disease.

In 2009 I turned 30.  I was also very overweight.  Having been an active sporty child and young adult I wasn’t happy being so big so I made the decision to lose weight. I didn’t want to be fat at 40.  Like many people I wanted a quick fix and so signed up to a very low calorie diet.  This helped me to lose significant amounts of weight (5 stone in 9 months) but in early 2010 I was diagnosed with gall stones and was advised that I was no longer able to continue with the diet.

In September 2010 I had my gall bladder removed. Shortly afterwards the constipation and stomach cramps started. In 2011 I had a colonoscopy, I was told there was mild damage and swelling and was given a course of antibiotics and left to it.

Roll the clock forward to 2013 the pain, cramps, bleeding continued.  Another colonoscopy followed with similar findings.  I was told I had IBS type C and advised to follow a high fibre diet.  I tried this, but the symptoms continued.  I had already removed wheat and dairy, so I then tried removing high FODMAP foods but still the symptoms continued.

12 months later, when the blood loss became so severe I returned to the doctors.  I saw a different GP who listened, looked through my notes and said that she thought my symptoms were IBD not IBS.   I was referred to a consultant and gave a stool sample for analysis.  2 weeks later she called to say IBD was confirmed and further tests with the consultant would identify if it was UC or Crohns (eventually confirmed as UC in Jan this year).

And this is where Greg comes in!  Greg doesn’t just give dietary advice he looks at the bigger picture, lifestyle, mindset and stress levels and so on.   We discussed the plan and he gave me some amendments to make to what I was already doing. Talking to someone who ‘gets it’ is such a relief. GPs are great, but in relation to nutrition advice the advice from the NHS is far behind.

My symptoms now are pretty much non-existent.  I’m completely medication free, I don’t get cramps and bleeding is rare.  I enjoy my gym training which continues to improve – I’m stronger faster and fitter and the PBs continue to roll in!

By the time I spoke with Greg I had eliminated so many foods I was left with approx 10 foods to eat and rotate making eating out near impossible and day to day eating pretty dull.  Add to this the fact that I was still getting symptoms I was incredibly frustrated. However, I’m now at the stage where there are very few foods I need to avoid and I can eat out without having to worry about finding a suitable option on the menu.

My nutrition knowledge is pretty good in comparison to your average Joe but I would never have got this far alone.  You have to be willing to make the changes but if you are, then Greg has the knowledge, experience and empathy to support you on the journey.

It’s incredible to think I left it so long when the help is out there!
