HYROX went to Dubai for the first ever event to be held in the UAE on September 2nd 2023. The event was held at Dubai World Trade Centre. In what is very rare for a non-championship HYROX event, there was some prize money on offer for the podium spots in the individual Pro races – with $2500 up for grabs for the winners, $1500 for second, and $1000 for third.
Well known athletes appearing included World Champion, Lauren Weeks, Ryan Kent (who finished 4th at the 2023 HYROX World Championships), Mikaela Norman (North American champion) and Jordan Bryant.
Men’s Pro
The Men’s Pro was won by Ryan Kent in 00:59:00 who looked in control throughout. Jordan Bryant was second in a time of 01:02:27, followed by Michael Logue in 01:04:21.
Women’s Pro
The Women’s Pro was won by World Champion Lauren Weeks in a time of 00:59:27. Second was Mikaela Norman in 01:00:23 in her first HYROX race since suffering seriously with her health / myocarditis (listen to her story on this interview with her). The podium was completed by Jess Towl in 01:07:18 – an impressive time for what was her first ever HYROX.
Men’s Open
An extremely closely fought Men’s Open was ultimately won by Darren Burke in a time of 01:03:54. Sean Clancy was just a second behind in 01:03:55. Third place was taken by Alexandre Fedotov in 01:05:33.
Women’s Open
The Women’s Open was won by Carla Dilley in a time of 01:08:18. Second was Sharna Garforth in 01:09:04, followed by Fleurine Eberle in 01:09:32.
Doubles
The Men’s Doubles was won by Ciaran Parkinson and Jeremy McConnell in a time of 00:55:57.
The Women’s Doubles was won by Leanne Miles and Danielle Murphy in 01:02:20.
The Mixed Doubles was won by Mark Nangle and Katie Healy in 01:02:31.
